Exterior House Painting in Pomona: How We Prep, Paint, and Make It Last

A good exterior paint job starts before we open a paint can. In Pomona and the Inland Empire, the sun is strong and the summers are hot and dry. Paint that goes on a dirty or loose surface will peel fast. Paint that goes on a clean, prepped surface lasts for years. Here is how we do it.

  1. We wash and prep first. We start by washing the outside of the house to take off dirt, dust, and loose paint. Then we scrape off anything that is peeling, sand the rough spots, and fill cracks and gaps with caulk. Wood that is bare gets primer. This step takes time, but it is the step that makes the paint stick.

  2. We protect everything around the house. We cover plants, walkways, windows, and anything that should stay clean. We tape off trim and fixtures. A clean job site matters as much as a clean paint job.

  3. We paint with brush, roller, or sprayer. We use the right tool for each part of the house. Spraying gives a smooth finish on large walls and siding. Brush and roller work best on trim, doors, and detail areas. Most houses get two coats for full color and full coverage.

  4. How long does it take? Most single-story houses take a few days from prep to finish. Bigger houses and two-story houses take longer. Weather matters too — we do not paint on wet surfaces or in rain. We give you a clear time plan before we start.

  5. Picking a color. Color changes how a house looks from the street. Light colors stay cooler in the sun. Dark colors look strong but show dust more. We can paint a small test area first so you can see the color on your own house before we paint the whole thing.

  6. How to make it last. Keep sprinklers off the walls, wash off dirt once in a while, and fix small cracks early. A small touch-up now can save a full repaint later. With good prep and two coats, a paint job in our area can last for years.
